Video: 4 Must-Do Study Hacks for Better SAT Scores

How do you prepare for the SAT? That's certainly a loaded question. Good thing this student vlogger has such great advice on how to study for the test!

Studying for the SATs can be overwhelming since there’s so much information you have to retain in order to get a good score. Student vlogger Isabella uses a few study hacks to guide her through the SATs and she is sharing her secrets with you. Check out the video below!

1. Visit Khan Academy

Use the different resources on Khan Academy to understand concepts from any class you’re struggling in. Their helpful videos will walk you through the different problems. Khan Academy also partners with the College Board, so they give you an official SAT practice test. You can also set a schedule so you can remember to study and set a goal for your studying.

2. Utilize test prep books

Test prep books have many problems you can work on, and they provide answers with explanations for each one. This helps you find out where you went wrong and walks you through how the problem should be done. Oftentimes, the practice problems in these books are actually real test questions from previous years—these questions are your ultimate resource.

3. Break up study time into intervals

Instead of studying for a few hours straight and struggling to retain information, you should spend about 20 minutes studying and taking a five-minute break to get a snack, drink water, or rest and recuperate before getting back to work. Or you could spread out your time during the week and study five days a week for 30 minutes every day.

4. Get help from your teacher

Teachers have SAT practice tests and packets from past SATs. You can talk to your teachers in different subjects, like math and English, and they will give you specific packets for that subject. This is a chance to talk through the packet with your teacher, who can explain how you could get the correct answer. Practicing and repetition help when it comes to test day.

CollegeXpress has helped me in many ways. For one, online searches are more organized and refined by filtering scholarships through by my personal and academic interests. Due to this, it has made searching for colleges and scholarships significantly less stressful. As a student, life can already get stressful pretty quickly. For me, it’s been helpful to utilize CollegeXpress since it keeps all of my searches and likes together, so I don’t have to branch out on multiple websites just to explore scholarship options.

I never would have found the college I plan on attending without CollegeXpress! I've always been a person of ambition and have been dreaming of studying and working on my passion for law, legal studies, and political science. Washington College is where I plan on pursuing my career. My journey with my education has been difficult, and oftentimes, I was told I would never amount to much, but now I'm dual enrolled at Caroll Community College and have had experience in the fields I am dedicated to. Without the help of CollegeXpress (even in its early days), I would never have found Washington College and the information I need to apply and become a part of their community.

CollegeXpress has tremendously helped me in my search for financial aid opportunities as I enter my college career. It is easy to navigate and quickly narrowed down scholarships that I could apply for. Being awarded the scholarship will greatly help me in my finances regarding books and tuition. Thank you for this opportunity. Without CollegeXpress, it would have been more difficult to apply. I would recommend this site to everyone!

My high school counselor introduced me to CollegeXpress freshman year. It has made such a difference in high school, and I plan to continue relying on it in college. CollegeXpress is my go-to because it addresses each aspect of being a student. There are the articles you’d expect regarding college applications and financial aid, but you will also find advice on things like de-stressing and maintaining relationships while balancing a heavy course load. CollegeXpress will also keep you updated on current scholarships through e-mails each Saturday. (They don’t harass you with any product promotion like so many other sites do.) CollegeXpress is a lot like an older sibling who has already conquered the challenges you are facing. Now, they are reaching out a helpful hand. I say take it.
